Even if you don’t have your eyes set on the Oval Office, you can bring a little of the White House to YOUR house by naming your pup after a Presidential Pooch. (PP)

The cast of characters includes wolfhounds, beagles, Airedales, poodles, plus a generous helping of “tapestry” heritage pups. George Washington bred foxhounds. George Bush and Richard Nixon favored spaniels. Kennedy loved dogs, as did the Roosevelts (Franklin, Theodore...and Eleanor!).

To their dogs, these men weren’t world leaders, policy makers or Commanders-in-Chief. To Checkers, Buddy, Fala and all the rest of the Beltway dogs, the President is simply “my human.” Historical records are sketchy on some Presidential dog names, but here’s what we know today:
