Statistically, nearly 80% of all dog owners choose human names for their companion animals, with only 20% selecting names that are objects, colors, emotions, etc.
As with baby names, dog names tend to have cycles. Movies like “Benji,” “My Dog Skip,” and “Lassie,” breed hundreds of “copycat” dog names. In 1999, Jessy and Jack were at the top of the dogpile.
